Frequently Asked Questions (SSC Typing)

Does SSC allow the use of the Backspace key?
Yes, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) allows full use of the backspace key during the typing test. However, excessive use will decrease your Gross WPM speed.
How does SSC calculate typing errors?
SSC evaluates errors using "Full Mistakes" and "Half Mistakes". A missed word, substituted word, or severe spelling error is a Full Mistake. Spacing errors, capitalization errors, or single-letter typos are Half Mistakes. The final error formula is: Total Errors = Full Mistakes + (Half Mistakes / 2).
What is the required speed for CHSL and CGL?
For SSC CHSL (LDC/JSA), the required speed is 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi. For SSC CGL (DEST), you are required to complete 2000 Key Depressions in 15 minutes, which roughly translates to 27 WPM.
Which Hindi font is used in SSC typing?
SSC strictly uses the Hindi Unicode (Mangal) font along with the Inscript Keyboard Layout. Kruti Dev or Remington layouts are not officially used.
